Should I or Shouldn't I...Egg Freezing

What do you know about freezing your eggs- not the eggs in your fridge 😊- the eggs that are part of your reproductive system?  As women, we are born with all the eggs we’ll ever have at birth and over time the quality and number decline.  This wasn’t a concern in the 60s when the median age of marriage was early twenties, however, since the 60s, the median age has increased.  In 2010, the median age was thirty.  Not only are couples getting married later, couples are also having more reproductive challenges.  One in seven couples will experience infertility.

Marriage may not be a precursor for you having a child but your plans for the future and your career trajectory may be.  If one, some, or all of those are factors then egg freezing may be something to consider.  Basic fertility testing and assessing your egg reserve may help you to make an informed decision.  Here is a link to more detailed information about the process: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/egg-freezing/about/pac-20384556.  Who has done egg freezing? This may seem an odd topic to discuss on a mental health site but infertility and reproductive challenges can and do impact a woman’s mental health.  I believe the more you know, the better informed you are, the better decisions you can make.  Information gives you choice and choice gives you power.  This I believe will help a woman’s mental health.
